Turbines continue on the road in the Enterprise National League North with a trip to Haig Avenue on Tuesday evening (7.45pm) to face the Sandgrounders.’ 

The fixture was abandoned last month due a waterlogged pitch midway through the second half with the home side leading 2-1. 

Phil Brown’s side enter the match on the back of consecutive defeats; a late 2-1 loss at home to Buxton before suffering a 1-0 defeat away at Curzon Ashton. 

Opponents, Southport FC, have claimed four points from their last three games. A 2-1 win at Oxford City and a 1-1 draw with Chorley was followed up last weekend by a 2-0 loss to Darlington.

Both sides sit in the bottom two places both on 8 points from 12 matches. A win for Turbines would see them leapfrog the hosts into 21stand two points from safety with a game in hand.

Shaquile Coulthirst gained valuable minutes off the bench for a second consecutive match as he continues his return from a knee injury. Mustapha Carayol impressed off the bench last weekend against Curzon Ashton. Benji Mensah, Ryan Fryatt and Michael Gash remain sidelined through injury. 

Southport have former Peterborough United forward Danny Lloyd in their squad. The sandgrounders’ recently signed central midfielder Luke Griffiths from Macclesfield who made his debut off the bench in their defeat to Darlington at the weekend.

Manager Phil Brown said: “We go back up to Southport again. They’ll think they have a score to settle given they were 2-1 up at the time of the abandonment. The momentum was with us following Max Booth’s goal but it’s a new game. Southport are in the same position as us so ultimately it’s a six pointer on Tuesday night and we have to prepare properly for it.”
